Not one of Ongemak’s crew members are oblivious to the privilege we have to journey around the world. If you enjoy reading our posts and like to follow our journey, we ask that you make a contribution to the following organisations that are close to our hearts:
Education should not be determined by wealth. Feenix.org.
Over 90% of South African households are unable to afford tertiary education. By providing an alternative access channel, Feenix encourages everyday people and businesses to contribute to the country’s students and help them complete their education.
Feenix aims to create a positive society and a sustainable education funding model in South Africa by mobilising motivated students to create their own supportive network of givers.
Visit Feenix.org and give a deserving student a fair chance.
Ronell currently works for Feenix part-time while sailing, which is just another really solid reason to admire this organisation’s approach.
Community Development: Cape Town
Ikamva Labantu Charitable Trust was founded in 1963 during apartheid.
The organisation responds to the needs of township communities surrounding Cape Town through coordinated and pioneering programmes. Ikamva Labantu employs a total of 130 staff of which over 100 live in the communities they serve.
Ronell is working part-time with Ikamva Labantu being a full time employee for two years before embarking on the cruise.
